Security Deployment
Security Deployment typically is utilized for tough hole logging conditions where other logging methods are risky, expensive, or are not feasible during the drilling process. Security Deployment can be run anytime after the well has been drilled to total depth in wells that do not meet the operating parameters for Direct Drill Deployment. With two options, Memory Operation or Wireline Operation, Security Deployment assures that you will get your log every time, even in difficult well geometries and poor hole conditions. Two operational options ensure safe, predictable and efficient acquisition of logging data:
- Memory Option: The logging string is hung off the Portal™ Bit in open hole with no connections to surface. Sensors record the data in memory during the bit trip out of the hole. This option is similar to Direct Drill Deployment, but the process takes place on a separate wiper trip after drilling to total depth. This is required when the drilling BHA does not have a necessary drift for the logging tool passage.
- The Portal™ Bit is used to ream and condition problem areas.
- The logging tools are then deployed down through the drillstring, and suspended from the Portal™ Bit.
- Wireline Option: The logging string passes through the Portal™ Bit into openhole while connected to a wireline.
- The Portal™ Bit allows logging tools to be deployed beyond any tough zones or wellbore obstructions, enabling operators to obtain data over the required log interval.
- Data is acquired at the surface on wireline, in real time.
- Drill pipe can be manipulated during deployment to prevent static drill pipe issues.
