ThruBit’s® Level 4 solution delivers real open-hole data that eliminates guesswork and improves the prospects of success in horizontal and highly deviated wells. We offer the only cost-effective method of obtaining formation data for these “impossible-to-log” drilling situations where operators, faced with prohibitive costs and risks for logging while drilling (LWD) and pipe-conveyed logging (PCL), often rely on calculations and estimates. After the well is drilled conventionally with directional drilling equipment, the pipe is returned to the surface where the Portal™ bit is attached. Using the Portal™ bit to ream past problem areas, the pipe is returned to total depth (TD). ThruBit® then runs its SureLog™ tools and hang-off assembly through the drillstring, using pump pressure to move them along horizontal and deviated portions of the wellbore. After tools are checked for quality operation and released from the wireline, they log data in memory mode as the pipe is pulled out. Once the horizontal portion of the well is logged, the tools can be retrieved and the pipe reamed back to the bottom in preparation for setting casing. Less expensive than the alternatives, ThruBit’s® Level 4 solution also greatly reduces risk. Tools can be readily retrieved at any time, greatly reducing the possibility of lost tools that cause nuclear contamination and well abandonment. By replacing guesswork with real formation data, operators can optimize both frac programs and well production.
