Direct Drill Deployment

Utilizing ThruBit’s® patented Portal™ Bit, Direct Drill Deployment conveys compatible slim-hole logging tools into the openhole after the last bit run to total depth. Logging tools are suspended from the bit and data is stored in memory, allowing disconnection of the wireline. Without the wireline, operators can continue tripping pipe out of the hole while the logging tools collect and record data for analysis on the surface. By enabling parallel drilling and logging operations, Direct Drill Deployment saves time while also reducing the risk of stuck and lost-in-hole tools.

Operating parameters:

  • A minimal drift is required throughout the drill string.
  • The logging tools are deployed downhole on electric line or slickline using ThruBit® running hardware. Tools are then are hung off the Portal™ Bit using the ThruBit® Hang-Off Device.
  • The logging data is captured in memory as the drillstring is tripped out and downloaded for analysis at the surface.
  • Wireless Memory configuration allows:
    • Data gathering without the need for wireline in the hole.
    • Connections to be broken.
    • Pipe to be tripped.
    • Hole circulation to continue for well control.

Specifications for temperature / pressure must be addressed with a ThruBit® Logging Solutions Specialist.
